Group 4 Donaghey, Okleshen, Riebel

3/10/15
Today we picked our topic which is the human maze used to study latent learning. We started the worksheets and research on the topic and assigned jobs to everyone.
3/11/15
Today we researched different variations of the maze experiment and started filling out student handout 13. All of the experiments revolved around learning patters and process but some of the other experiments also incorporated natural choice, preference.
3/12/15
Still working on SH 13, but we also started to talk about how exactly we were going to put together our maze. And what types of variables we would use to measure latent learning.
3/13/15
We finished up SH 13 and started working on SH 14. We have decided on having a viewable nap before entering the maze and a reward upon completion would be our variables. This way we may have 3 different types of groups to test to see how each effects the latent learning time of the participants.
3/16/15
We finished up throught SH 15 and we started figuring out how we are going to build our maze, which we will be starting Wednesday. Working on SH 16 & 17 as well.
3/17/15
We finished up SH 16 & 17 and started working on the QR scanner page and surgery that we will be using for our experiment. We figured out all the materials we will need to get/ have on the day of. Tomorrow morning we start the construction of the maze.
3/18/14
We came in early to start the construction of the maze. First we layed out the pipes and they were screwed together.
Then the class helped up prop this part off the ground because this is the layout of the top of the maze. We got all the other poles taped to the ground and we will start putting the tarpes up tomorrow or Friday.
3/19/15
Today we finished SH 18-20.
 https://docs.google.com/document/d/18KQm9LyvyleCWi9vCai59n8IlWHAB9LPIzKv3DrRkfA/edit?usp=sharing
The SH 18 was our rough draft on all the aspects of our experiment. Tomorrow we will be finishing up the actual maze and starting the map and poster board.
3/20/15
We spent the day up by the maze and we are starting to put all the black tarpes up now.
We still have to finish the perimeter and then start mapping out the inside of the maze on Monday.
3/23/15
We finished putting up the permitted of the maze today.
3/24/15
We completely mapped out the maze on paper and are almost done making all the hallways. We are deciding on a theme of the maze and then putting all the fishing touches tomorrow before school.
3/25/15
Still working on the maze. We only have a few more hallways to fill up and we have finished the poster.
(abby can't spell)
3/26/14
The pros of the maze was that we got to see how well we actually did  with making it after it took us so long, and we got to have fun with the variables. The cons were that people rushed the maze all the time so we were always trying to keep them calm and to get everyone to sign in. Also kids ruined the inside of the maze by breaking through tarpes that were taped together, this was annoying to have to fix all the time. Also we had many kids trying to use their phone flashlights which messed with our experiment variables, making some of the times inaccurate. It was a stressful but fun day, but we were very sad to have to take it down all in about 30 minutes when it took us so long to set up. But we were glad that we picked the maze to do.

Group 15 Panzella, Loeffler, Dermogerontas

IMarch 10th, 2015

Today as a group, we found out our topics. After finding out about our topics we filled out the worksheets assigned to us. The worksheets included things such as what each of are individually doing, who's writing rough drafts, who's making the final copy, who's coming up with the ideas, and who's creating the project. Since it is the first day we did not get very far.

March 11th, 2015
Today, we continued to work on the worksheets. We did not get very far with the student handouts but we were able to discuss as a group who will be assigned to the different parts of the handouts.

March 12th, 2015
During class, we completed student handouts 11, 12, and 14. We started to look at 15 but didn't start it but we got a good understanding of it. Also, we found our 3 articles for student handout 13.

March 13th, 2015
We began working on studen handout 13. We did not finish but we will be finishing up over the weekend.

March 16th, 2015
We continued to work on student handout 13. We did not finish during class but Alyssa finished when she got home from work.

March 17th, 2015
Today during class, Tommy and Alyssa (since Jordan was absent) worked on student handout 16 and 17. We completed both before leaving class. After we finished those, we started on student handout 18, 19, and 20.

March 18th, 2015
Jordan and Alyssa continued working in the handouts and began discussing the poster. After school, Alyssa bought the the tri fold poster and mapped out how the poster display.

March 19th, 2015
Since Jordan has been absent the past couple of days, Alyssa continues to work BY HERSELF on student handouts 18 and 20 while Tommy (in the background) sits and talks to other groups.

March 20th, 2015
Not much was able to be done today during class. The poster was at Alyssa's house because she was going to work on it over the weekend and everything else was completed.

March 23rd, 2015
WHO'S EXCITED FOR THE PSYCH FAIR IN 3 DAYS?! WE ARE! We just received all of our voices and pictures! We uploaded them all to our Google drive. Now we just have to print out pictures, line up our voices, and complete our poster! Also, we bought all of our supplies, including candy and headphones.

We have made progress on our poster! Almost done!

March 24th, 2015

BEHIND THE SCENCES AT THE PSYCH FAIR!!

WHERES TOMMY?!?

Still searching!

Found him.

Group 20 - Fleming, McDonald, Hill

3-10-2015

Today we finalized our topic. Our topic is about tasting food with a blindfold on at first and then tasting food with a blindfold and nose plugged. We are currently trying to fill out the student handouts that are online in order to complete our project. The link below shows Student Handout 11 completed.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FUU4vdoW6kMV03Ay27jjO-mCQtbldZMndx6SxOv8Uiw/edit?usp=sharing

3-11-2015

Today, we started student handout number 13. We had to research different experiments that were similar to ours. Ours experiments with taste perception. In my group of three, we each found an experiment that had to do with taste perception and researched on it and compared the results.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jwfBe1N5jjcXX_Bo03ubKokdUPLZq0MCJUUtOn6Kk6g/edit?usp=sharing

3-12-2015

We are finishing up our student handout number 13. We finished the research part and now have to write a summary of the different experiments that we researched. After writing the summary, we moved onto student handout 14. This worksheet tell us that we have to list testable relationships with our topic. We are focusing on the perception of taste.

3-16-2015

We finished student handouts 11-15 and now are beginning to work on student handout 16. We are figuring out now who we are going to be testing, how long it will take, and what we are measuring. We will measure all ages and both genders. It will probably take about 5 minutes per group and we want to measure if they can taste the foods with their nose plugged or not. We are going to have to make sure other people cannot see what we are doing so they don't know what foods we are giving them.

3-17-2015

We started working on student handouts 18 and 19. We named our project "Let's sauce up your senses!" because we are going to make them taste sauces. We have to get a poster still for our presentation to set on the table. A yellow colored poster would be good because it is bright and will attract peoples attention.

3-18-2015

We got our poster and it is a bright yellow.

I believe that we will be starting to work on it next week but we are thinking of putting mostly research on it and lots of pictures. Pictures are meant to attract kids attention because most people do not want to just read paragraphs. We are starting to work on student handouts 18 and 20 because we finished 19 today.

3-19-2015

Today, we are finishing student handouts 18 and 20. Student handout 20 is pretty simple because it is structured and it was mostly stuff from other handouts. We had to organize what we were getting for our experiment and the costs of it. The sauces we are using are chocolate syrup, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, ranch, and barbecue sauce. We have to start organizing our poster today and what we want to put on it. There is a certain organization that is required for the poster and we are going to look into that more today.
Below is a picture of Jamie and she is very excited to be working on our poster!

3-20-2015

Today, we began to work on our QR codes. We are asking everyone basic questions like what is their gender and what grade that they are in. Then we will ask them what food did they think they tasted for the first round. We will then tell them the actually food that they tasted and have them select that on the multiple choice question. Then we will do the same thing but the question will ask them what they think they tasted with the blindfold and their nose plugged. We will have them fill all of this out on chrome books using the QR code we made. We also started our poster by writing our group number on it and deciding what everyone is to bring on Monday so we can actually start to create it.

3-23-2015

We are working on our poster today! Jamie is cutting out the letters that we are using for our poster. Rachel and I are planning out how the poster will be laid out. We are starting to glue the letters down. We are also talking about who is bringing what for the actual psych fair. We will continue to do this tomorrow.

3-24-2015

We finished our poster today and typed up our directions of what we are going to say to the participants!
We also decided who is going to bring what for the actual psychology fair.

3-25-2015

We can at 5:00 p.m. to set up for the psych fair. We accidentally bought steak sauce instead of BBQ sauce and one of our participants did not like that at all. It was just a practice round on one of our friends. Everything seemed to work out really good. We were worried at first because Rachel's mom did it and she answered correctly for both rounds, but that was because she said she bought the sauces that she tasted. We fixed our problems, which there wasn't many. The best idea was having the tarp to hide where we test our participants so then the other people coming to do it later don't know what we are giving them. The preview night went very well so far!

3-26-2015

Today is the official Psychology fair! I (Kelly) decided to bring a cooler to keep our sauces in so they stay nice and fresh. We brought the BBQ sauce this time. We also bought more spoons and decided to get candy to give to the participants for trying our experiment.
This is a participant trying the sauce just with the blindfold on. He is holding the oyster cracker in his hand ready to eat it after the sauce.

Jamie is preparing the second sauce, which will be tasted with the blindfold on and the participants nose plugged.

Cleaning up did take a while because we had to put the desks back into our teachers classroom. It was messy cleaning up the sauces too because they got all on the table. Overall, I believe that the psychology fair went great!

Group 17 : Sheila Walsh and AnnaBella Kriecher

This blog is run by Sheila Walsh

Day 1, March 10, 2015 : Today, AnnaBella and I found out that our original experiment we had hoped to use for Psych fair had already been claimed by another group and that we need to find or make another one in order to participate in Psych Fair. As of right now, we're both researching different possibilities for experiments or surveys and are hoping to come to a joint decision tomorrow. The both of us divided the work for Psych Fair as well. We discussed our strengths and weaknesses in order to bring out the best in each other so we can achieve the best grade for this project.

Day 2, March 11, 2015: Today, Bella and I completed two of the six required worksheets for psych fair and decided on our project. We plan on conducting a survey, asking a series of questions to individuals based on the incidents that have happened in Ferguson as well as their opinion on law enforcement. I know a lot of information about the subject but Bella doesn't really know anything so she's planning on researching the topic tonight.

Day 3, March 12, 2015: Today, Bella and I finished another worksheet and started another assignment. Bella began reading up on police brutality against people of color and statistics on how often a person is arrested then convicted for a crime based by race.

Day 4, March 13, 2015: Today, Bella was the only one that was at school because, I participated in St. Baldricks. She told me she had little class time to do any research and had work tonight so I took some work home and researched images and videos that have been taken by the protestors. Here are some attaches below.

I plan on ending each blog post with a photo from now on.

Day 5, March 16, 2015: Bella and I continued to do research on Ferguson. Initially, Bella was appalled at the lack of media attention surrounded by the injustices being committed. However, we considered the fact that the media will warp and completely ignore events that are going on around the world. We both agreed this was an important topic to discuss because one that is often ignored is one of the most important.

Day 6, March 17, 2015:
I took the day to continue our research, while Bella did some online shopping. I looked up stereotypes for African Americans in the media. It was pointed out that the black best friend (female) ¨...appear not to have much going on in their own lives but turn up at exactly the right moment to coach white characters through life.¨ Along with this ongoing stereotype, the black best friend character usually seem to support the antagonist with ¨sass, attitude and a keen insight on life¨. Two good examples would be the character Chastity from ¨10 Things I Hate About You¨ and Dionne from ¨Clueless¨.

(Left to Right)
Chastity, Dionne

Along with the stereotype of the black friend, the stereotype of the black thug is often used in the media. When interviewed for this article, many black women agree, ¨....depictions have real world consequences in their love lives and careers. ¨ Another statement, ¨Often these films and television shows provide little social context for why more black men than others are likely to end up in the criminal justice system. ¨

Day 7, March 18, 2015
Today, Bella did absolutely nothing. I continued to conduct research on our topic, as well as bought the poster and began to type out the clips of information we needed on our poster.

Day 8, March 19, 2015
Everything that needs to be done for Psych Fair has been completed, except for the completion of the poster which I am taking my time on. Bella is absent today.

Day 9, March 20, 2015
Stencils and red matte board was purchased today for purchase.

Day 10, March 23, 2015
Today I am becoming more and more anxious for psych fair to be over. Bella hasn't done anything or offered to really contribute. It's beginning to irritate me because although we are friends, and I don't want her grades to go down however it's irritating that she won't do her part.

Day 11, March 24, 2015
I was absent today, I am unsure as to what Bella did. However, while I was watching the news, a breaking overnight story was being reported. A young black man, from Chicago, was denied entry to a bar because the owner believed he had a fake ID and was underage, (witnesses say he was leaving quietly). Local police were waiting down the sidewalk for him and brutalized him publically before arresting him. The victim was indeed 21.
"After Martese was denied entry to the bar, he found himself suddenly flung to the ground. The brutish force used resulted in his head and bodily injuries. His treatment was unprovoked as he did not resist questioning or arrest. In confusion, with blood painting his face and creating a pool on the bricks of the corner, he yelled out for mercy.
Though he lay bleeding and crying out, officers continued to hold him to the pavement, pinning him down, twisting his arm, with knees to his back until he was handcuffed."

Day 12, March 25, 2015
Today I was absent again, however tonight was the psych fair for family and friends. I came with the poster and information all completed. When parents had questions I answered to the best of my ability, and Bella called people over and asked them to participate. Our survey was more successful than originally thought as the night went on.

Day 13, March 26, 2015

PSYCH FAIR IS HERE

Today is the psych fair for the students. So far there is positive feedback from the students and we ran out of paper applications within half of second hour. I am extremely excited for the results of this.

Group 23 Brooks, Schultz, Dimperio

3/10/15
Today we chose our topic. We will be experimenting on gender conformity versus convenience. After deciding our topic we began to fill out worksheets that were assigned to us. For example, beginning to create a hypothesis and assigning jobs among the group.

3/12/15
Today we made more progress on our worksheets. Over the weekend we plan to meet up to finish them and start to collect supplies. We are starting to research other experiments similar to ours to get an idea of the results we should be expecting.

3/16/15
Today we submitted 4 worksheets. Last night we got together and worked together on a worksheet that had us research previous experiments that studied the same topic. Tonight or tomorrow we will go pick up a tri-fold poster board for our booth that will provide participants with information about our topic, previous, researchers, and previous experiments.

3/20/15
Throughout the week we have been finishing up the work sheets that ask us to dig deeper into the experiment. We have also been coming up with what will be on our poster for the booth. We decided that it would be too costly to try and make nearly 1600 cupcakes for the fair. So we are only making a couple dozen and will just be having people point to the cupcake they would chose and then hand them a small brownie as a reward.

3/22/15
Today we met for the second time out of class. We used the time to prepare for the week ahead of us since the fair is 4 days away. We typed and printed out everything that was going to be put on the poster.

3/23/15
Tonight Lauren and I went shopping for creative elements for the poster and for the baking supplies for the cupcakes and brownies. It was an interesting shopping trip to say the least. Then we assembled the poster.

3/24/15
Tonight we are starting the baking process. A total of 30 boxes of brownie mix were purchased so it will be a long night. Excited for the parent night tomorrow.

3/25/14
Today we scripted exactly what we were going to be saying to participants. We did this to make sure that each participant was getting the same instructions as the next. At the parent night we figured out exactly how we should be placing the cupcakes in front of participants and got an idea of what the responses would be like.

3/26/15
Today at the psych fair we found that a large majority of the males chose the blue cupcake. A lot of females also chose blue but a fair amount of them chose pink which was noted to be because of gender conformity. Only a few people chose the cupcake in front of their dominant hand for convenience. Most people chose the cupcake based on color and not convenience.

Group 16 Gilarski and Watkins

3-10-15

We found out our project was today!  We got our first choice. Sydney gets to hit people in the hand with a hammer. This should be interesting! We are really excited to start Psych fair !!

3-11-15

Second day, still nothing too exciting still doing student handouts 11-15 due by Monday.

3-16-15

Today the student handouts 11-15 are due today, so we have to finish those. Tomorrow student handouts 16 and 17 are due by the end of class. Still nothing too exciting!

3-17-15

Today student handouts 16 and 17 are due at the end of class. Thursday student handout 18 and 19 are due. Student handout 18 is a rough draft of what we are going to do specifically. Our experiment is going to be easy because we don't need anything too fancy, just a fake hand, little hammer, and a paint brush. Everyone that participates in our experiment is going to scan a QR code so they can fill out our questionier of three questions...
1. did you feel pain in your real hand
2. did you jump or flinch
3. did nothing happen

3-18-15

Still working on student handout 18 and 19 and Sydney is working on our QR code questions so the participants have something to fill out and we have data to look at, at the end of the fair.

3-26-15

IT'S PSYCHOLOGY FAIR DAY!!!!! The day went great. Our booth was really popular. We only sat down and didn't really do anything for about 45 minutes throughout the whole day. Girls were the most nervous and they jumped the most. The night before was parent night and we had one mom scream and almost fall out of her chair. It was a great day.

Group 18 - McCormick Sokol

3-10

We found our topic today, which is investigating the psychology behind the popular app Tinder. We also started filling out the required forms an created a hypothesis.

3-11

Today we did more in depth research about our topic and started to brainstorm ideas for our presentation.

fake bios we made for our fake Tinder profiles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3-12

Today we finished up Student Handout 15, and  did additional research about our topic and read interviews about the Tinder company.

3-16

Today we worked on Student Handout 16
https://docs.google.com/a/d230.org/document/d/17fQRu5YkTR1cqeHpn2_ilaYjjprRBqQd5ohEhwCGfbE/edit

This worksheet showcases the type of people we will be testing on and how we will measure it. We will be testing on all genders and ages.

3-17

Today Hannah and I worked on the other student handouts and did more research on our topic.

3-18

The project begins with a blank canvas...the possibilities are endless.

3-19

bout to make some interesting questions for our testees...

3-20

Today we found some pictures for our in real life Tinder board. We chose people of various races/genders. :)
FUN

3-23

We need to print out pictures for our poster board and then we are done! We will print out the generic Tinder picture and place different pictures we made inside of them, number them, and glue them to the poster.

3-24

Our journey is winding down :)))) and we are making the final touches to our poster. We are going to print out the pictures in color at home and make fun borders to attract people to our stand. We also plan to bring treats for our stand.

3-25-15

We are blogging LIVE from the practice parental testing at Carl Sandburg High School. We have finished setting everything up and are awaiting the parental units to test it out!

my folks

3-26-15
we are blogging live from Psychology Fair 2015!!! So far, everyone seems to enjoy our experiment and we have been getting lots of people checking it out.
the sun is almost as bright as our testers!!!!!!
